Ireland’s Magazine by Social Care Workers, for Social Care Workers

Social Care Now is a free, independent online magazine dedicated to the heart and soul of Ireland’s social care community. Created by frontline practitioners, students, educators, and advocates, we shine a light on the real stories, challenges, triumphs, and innovations that define your daily work, from residential homes and community outreach to policy shifts and personal reflections.

Launched in 2025 from Galway, our mission is simple: amplify voices that too often go unheard, foster professional recognition, and build a stronger sense of community across the sector. Whether you’re navigating HIQA standards, celebrating small wins with residents, or exploring new career pathways, Social Care Now is your go-to resource.

What We Cover

  • Frontline Stories: “A Day in the Life” features, funny placement mishaps, and heartfelt reflections.
  • Professional Insights: Policy updates, legislation breakdowns, education, training opportunities, and emerging roles.
  • Community Corner: Competitions (like our €20 Penny’s voucher quiz), career advice, and biscuit debates (custard creams vs. digestives?).
  • Future Focus Vacancies, workshops, podcasts, and nationwide spotlights.

We deliver digital flipbooks, accessible, engaging, and always free for the social care workforce, with a view to a print version in the future.

Meet the Team

We’re not journalists from afar; we’re you. Led by editorial director Rob, a Social Care Worker and librettist, our small but mighty crew brings decades of hands-on experience:

  • Frontline veterans who’ve managed meltdowns and magic moments.
  • Writers, designers, and communicators passionate about care culture.
  • Web developers able to bring us online.
